Fairy Rings

This was the fairy ring where we got the mushrooms from to conduct the mushroom dissection for the science lessons a few weeks ago.

I also downloaded some worksheets and reading material from the internet to supplement the lessons. We read about the three types of mushrooms that could be verified by the underneath of the cap. We saw one of a different cap variety when taking the historical walk around the state college a few weeks ago. The cap variations can identify the varying types of mushroom groups or cluster families. Some of the mushrooms in the fairy ring grew in clusters.
The child was able to view mold of some of the specimen clusters.

So, this was a fun break from what we doing..because, hands on seems to suit the child's learning best.
